Bushey Kids Class (Mondays and Fridays) We start this months report with the last session in October where myself and Matthew Abbott donned fancy dress for Halloween dressed all in black with "scream" masks and we had a fun session with plenty of games and sweets for everyone.
Congratulations to all the kids in the Infant and Junior classes on both Mondays and Fridays, we have had an absolutely fantastic grading here. The infants were tested on 3 rear strangles which included a shoulder arm lock, body drop and rear leg throw and all their ground work as well, whilst the Juniors were tested on their previous grading throws with added technical finishes such as the body drop with Fig 4 arm lock, Major Outer reap with cross arm lock on the ground with a flip n spin to finish and lastly the leg throw with a Fig 4 leg lock to finish. Well done every body. Myself and Renshi Mark would like to say a very big thank you to Matthew Abbott and Eugene McFadden for all their help and support during this very busy grading period. |

Student of the Month
Student of the Month for November has been awarded to Jessica Moody from the Friday junior class, Jessica's enthusiasm for her training is outstanding, she is always willing to volunteer or demonstrate the techniques she has been shown. Jessica also seems to have a natural ability to pick up techniques very quickly, well done Jessica keep up the good work.

Bushey Adult & Intermediate Class (Mondays)
Firstly congratulations to James Pankiewicz (representing the Bushey Massif) for his medal received for his endeavours at the Judo championships at the beginning of the month, his accomplishment there is not alone as other members of Ishin Ryu Ju-Jitsu also received medals at the competition. |
||||
This month we welcome Lewis Thomas into the intermediate class and Martin Munt into the seniors, both of whom have joined just as everyone is gearing up for their forthcoming grading and have already encountered a couple of mammoth sessions including fitness testing and grappling. As usual we struggle with irregular attendance from the intermediates (and I hasten to add a couple of seniors as well) but nevertheless we have recently seen a great improvement in numbers on the tatami and as a result have seen a great improvement in training spirit, thus bringing out the best from everyone. |
||||
We also had a good representation at the induction weekend and 1st Aid course as Chris Elsen, John France, Mark Bloom, Mark Collins and Daman Wadhwa joined others members from Borehamwood, Thetford and Honbu dojos. After spending Saturday in Honbu Dojo listening to lectures and the ways and how's of Ishin Ryu Ju-Jitsu and learning all about Soke the attendees were rewarded with a team building games session at the Norfolk golf and country club and a slap up meal and the evening wouldn't have been complete without the obligatory team quiz, the loosing team of course having to manage the heavier of "Pinky & Perky", you will have to attend an Induction weekend if you don't already know who "Pinky & Perky" are. That's all I shall say. |

Borehamwood Kids & Intermediate Class (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays) We added some difficult conclusions to the techniques the infant and junior classes have been working on for their grading. The infants we tested and 3 rear strangles with a shoulder arm lock, body drop and rear leg throw whilst the juniors had to cope with throwing techniques finished with locks such as the Body drop with step over arm lock and Fig 4 JCB arm lock, Major Outer Reap with cross over arm lock and flip & spin to finish and lastly the leg throw with fig 4 leg lock to finish. I'm happy to report that we have seen some of the best gradings ever at Borehamwood. Well done everyone here.

Student of the Month
Student of the month has been awarded to Jerome Badu for continually impressing me with his effort to work hard with his partner (Michael Harryman) since the both of them moved into the junior class they have been inseparable and they have developed one of the best training pairs I've seen for a while they are not afraid to commit to the throw or more importantly the breakfall. Keep up the excellent work Jerome.

Borehamwood Adult Class (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
Firstly congratulations to Sempai Ruth and Mike "The Marine" Lee on their success at the Judo Championships, both doing extremely well in a somewhat alien environment and making their mark on some of the best Judo practitioners from the local and London areas.
Back in the Dojo we have seen some regular and frequent visitors from the Bushey dojo over the last month or so making the most of the opportunity to get some extra training in preparation for the forthcoming National Gradings in December. Eugene and James have been getting some extra mat time with Cristinel focusing on Purple, Brown and Brown / Black belts, whilst Mike Lee, James Kingston and Harvey Cousins have been making their mark as senior grades in the class not only are they completely focused on their blue belt syllabus but they have been constantly working their way through the system right from white belt. Mike Touhy is on track with his green belt and both Mike Lee and James Kingston have been helping him out as his Ukes.
|
Talking of white belt, novices Oliver Cleghorn, David Rendall and Mark Couch have been getting some great semi grading sessions in along with Chris from Bushey. All of whom attended the Induction weekend and 1st aid course. And on that note I would like to congratulate all the Thetford and Honbu intermediates that participated in absolutely everything on the induction weekend, even through sickness they soldered on and kept up with the seniors on the assault course, absolutely awesome.

Potters Bar (Thursdays)
As everyone had been working so hard in preparation for their forthcoming grading we took a break from the norm as they say and we spent a night with a Halloween Special, myself and Matthew dressed up all in black with the "Scream Masks" and as a special treat we spent the class playing team games and there was more than enough sweets to feed a small army. What a fantastic graded we had here, everyone passed 1st time and it was a pleasure to watch, everyone was confident and it showed in their techniques, the infants were graded on 3 rear strangles with a body drop, shoulder arm lock and a rear leg throw whilst the juniors had to manage a Body Drop with a step over arm bar and fig 4 JCB arm lock to finish, a Major Outer Reap with a cross over arm bar and flip & spin to finish and lastly the Leg throw with a fig 4 leg lock to finish. Everyone's Ju-Jitsu here is improving all the time, keep up the great work you guys.

You may remember earlier in the year an intermediate student, Elliott Nash, from Bushey Dojo, spent a week with me on work experience. Well during the last week in November Shoiab Khan from Westfield Secondary School also adorned a Dogi and spent a very busy week with me in every school and Dojo that I teach in. Shoaib was a very polite young man and showed a great interest in how my working week operates. He was very helpful during classes, assisting with laying out the mats and on occasion joined in with the intermediate classes. At Potters bar he joined in with James Sparrow and new recruit Jack Webb for some technical training and some ground work, I hasten to add he got stuck in and did exceptionally well during the grappling.

Student of the Month
Student of the Month has been awarded to Katie Conyers, Katie continues to impress me with her manners and etiquette, and she is very polite and works well with any member of the class and quite often helps those that may be struggling with their techniques. Thank you very much Katie and keep up the good work.

St Columba's (Mondays) I have to say how impressed I have been with the school this term, As I have previously mentioned I split the class into two groups, Novices and Seniors. Novices were graded on 3 front strangles and 4 ground holds whilst the senior group were graded on the same techniques as the regular Dojos, Body drop with step over arm bar and fig 4 JCB arm lock to finish, Major Outer Reap with a cross over arm bar and flip & spin to finish and also the Leg throw with a fig 4 leg lock to finish. I can't wait for next term where we will add even more throw to their syllabus now we have some brand new tatami to play on.

|
St Andrews (Tuesdays) I was very pleased to see the boys here participate in the end of term grading and even more pleased to watch them perfectly execute 3 front strangles, 2 rear strangles and 3 ground holds to achieve their new belts. Graded to White / Red Belt

Manor Lodge (Wednesdays, Thursday & Fridays) Congratulations to everyone at the school, we have rounded off this term with an outstanding grading for everyone and of course this means loads of presentations as each participating student that passed has been awarded a new belt and certificate. The year 1 have worked very hard on their ground work, the year 3 students did a great job with some throwing techniques such as Body Drop, Major Outer Reap and Knee, Year 4 students were treated to front strangles 4, 5 & 6 and finally year 5's had to work very hard on their Wrist & Shoulder Locks complete with the high arrest as well.
|
Lockers Park I must say that I have been suitable impressed with this lot, we finished term with a massive grading session, all the new intakes were tested on their fighting stances and breakfalls as well as their groundwork, Scarf Hold, Shoulder Hold & to the mount and side four quarters where as the seasoned practitioners were also tested on their arm bars. |
