Renshi going out on a simulated log run
with energie fitness personal trainer Karl.

A lot has happened since our last report in November 2007. first of all we have been travelling to the Honbu on a regular basis, not only to train on a Friday night but to have some private tuition of the Ishin Ryu syllabus with Sempai Sheila and Sensei Andy on Saturdays. On the run up to the national adult gradings Renshi and I practiced the syllabus white to orange belt every day in our own dojo and also using a few mats at our gym.

Those six weeks before the grading felt like every waking minute was Ishin Ryu. Ishin Ryu has now become a way of life, hard exercise, strict diet, Ki breathing, Japanese terminology, history, etiquette and those long hours spent polishing fed dress shoes!

Despite the commitment involved Renshi is determined to be the first affiliate to pass an Ishin Ryu Dan grade! This means that it will be my turn after, Gulp! That's another fine mess you’ve got me into Renshi!

Thank you Sempai Sheila and Sensei Andy for giving up your spare time to help us we really appreciate it.

Renshi and I are now back to hard training after an xmas break and then spending a long time working on demo stuff for our Junior students grading presentation evenings. Renshi has been out with Karl from our gym on a simulated one and a half mile log run using an Olympic bar with weights on as part of his training! I can't wait for his Ishin Ryu Dan grading, so watch this space.

Students worked hard for their gradings on the 25th of February at Redditch Dojo and 26th and 28th of February at Offenham Dojo. For their presentation evening they worked out demonstrations that they performed to parents and friends.

Joshua Plumridge from Offenham Dojo was unable to take his grading due to having some stitches in his knee. He will be back on the mat soon and hopefully will be able to take his grading at a later date.

A special trophy was awarded to Jack Bartley for most improved student. Although he has a lot of difficulties with ADHD Jacks concentration and behaviour have improved. Jack always puts his heart and soul into his training, well done!

A big thank you goes to Jenny Lawson and kit Callaghan for being the only senior students to take part in the demos. Kit was the only adult student on Thursday for the demonstrations he had to fill in pretty quick as well as make the tea and take the photos!

Jenny always amazes me as it takes her 3 hours on public transport to get to our dojo and shes always full of enthusiasm!

Thank you
