Where do I start there is so much I can say about Sensei Sheila and her Shodan grading. At the Pre black belt teaching assessment she presented herself in a very professional manner, right down to the essay on the female ninja.

She had put a lot of work into it which showed how professional and dedicated she is about her training and Ishin Ryu. I have known Sheila for the best part of six years. Right from the start she has always been very approachable and friendly to everyone. And has helped out 100% in any way she can to help others.

It was an awesome grading, not only to witness but to be able to take part in myself. Her courage and determination would put thousands of so called Dan grades to shame.

I respect and honour Sheila for attempting a challenge that no other girl has been able to do in the last nineteen years.

With honour and respect to a friend and loyal student welcome into the chosen few.

Oussa Sensei Sheila and Soke

A big and heartfelt congratulations to you Sensei for proving your mettle this weekend - another outstanding example of the indomitable human spirit that is cultivated by Ishin Ryu! Soke, you must be very proud at having achieved the first female Dan grade and I would like to say what a pleasure it was to share another slice of club history. Sensei Sheila is an inspiration not only to every female in the club, but also to every male (including the ones that like wearing wigs!!)

With respect and honour

Congratulation to you my friend, and of course to Sensei Eglen. Please give her a Viking hug from Norway the next time you see her. I really look forward to see the DVD. I had a strong belief that she would pass, but you never know how things turn out.

I would just like to say good luck to Sheila Eglen sempai on her up and coming Shodan grading.

As we all now Ishin Ryu is not a black belt academy and black belts are not handed out when you pay for your registration. Sheila has worked long and hard through some serious injuries to get to were she is now and runs the Honbu dojo kid's class week in and week out. She is a true credit to Ishin Ryu and all of its instructors and students. Good luck Sheila we are all routing for you....!

Ouss Soke,

Thank you so much for letting us be part of Sensei Sheila's grading. I really enjoyed the bits i was able to do (due to hip).

The multiple attacks were ace, I even enjoyed being thrown! I loved the milling cant wait to do that again (because I am sick!)

Sensei Sheila was awesome and just took whatever you threw at her. I tried not to cry when you called her Sensei but couldn't hold back the tears.

She is a real role model for women martial artists and most men too!

Every time I am running or training and in pain I will think of Sensei Sheila never giving up and will try to do the same. Hope you are ready for more female warriors Soke.

I can't wait till Renshi does his hopefully next year. In his 26 years of Ju-Jitsu it will be his biggest thing.

Dear Soke,

Could you pass on my sincere congratulations and admiration to Sensei Sheila please? Sensei Mark told us how the grading went last night and it was great news to hear that she had passed the challenge and become the first female Shodan instructor in Ishinryu. I know you and Sensei Sheila must be very very proud of her achievement as the rest of us. Please let her know that I am very much looking forward to congratulating her in person very soon.

With deep respect,

James Pankiewicz.

Dear Soke

Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend at Honbu.

Your hospitality is just amazing. It is hard to find words that are good enough, to describe your fantastic hospitality. We are so pleased!

Thank you Soke for the surprising sandan grade. It made me both proud and very happy and Jo-Inge's 4th dan as well.

Jo-Inge's high grade gives our club a new dimension.

Thank you as well for all those kind words. It means a lot to us that you are pleased with us and what our guys did at the mat on Saturday. Yes, we are very proud of them, when it comes to the strenghts and guts they showed, though some of the techniques wasn't of the quality that we had hoped. But all in all, we are very satisfied with what they acheived.

Hoping to see you soon. Please forward our biggest thanks and regards to Sensei Andy and Renshi Steven for all their help.

Kindest regards

Your friend

Ronny

Good luck to you,

Ouss Soke,

Just wanted to drop you a quick email wishing you a happy Ishin Ryu Anniversary on this hallowed day. 18 years is really incredible and a testament to your passion and hard work. I am so proud to be a student of Ishin Ryu and am honoured to be able to where the badge on my chest and more importantly on my right arm! I look forward to another 18 years!

On a different note, I hope really hope your Dad is improving and that 2008 improves (immensely) for you. Nobody should have to start the year like that least of all you! If there is anything I can do to help in anyway please don’t hesitate to ask. From looking after a class at Honbu to being a sympathetic ear over a big boys breakfast you can always give me a shout.

I look forward to seeing you tonight, but as I said I am more than happy to look after the adults for you if you so wish.

Hope you have a good day

Andy
